Wow, if you haven't read "The Pretty Ones", released Jan. 2017, by Robin Mahle, I can't begin to tell you what you're missing! This is a fantastic thriller! It's 6th in the Kate Reid series. The mystery of each novel is a stand-alone story; however, the continued romantic entanglements of the main characters seem to ebb & flow with each book, and does leave off with a bit of a cliffhanger.The story opens with a serial killer, called "The Pretty Face Killer", in L.A. The primary protagonist F.B.I. Special Agent Kate Reid, gets permission from her S.A.C. (Special Agent in Charge) Nick Scarborough to offer assistance to the L.A.P.D. in the case. Assistance was accepted for the entire team: Reid, Scarborough, and Special Agent Dwight Jameson.
Even with the F.B.I. team assisting the L.A.P.D., the numbers of dead women continue to rise; woman with their bodies butchered, while their faces remain pristine heavily made up, while posed in very public places.
There's evidence & there's at least one witness that the cops know of, but this information is contradictory! Is there One killer, does he have an accomplice, or is there a shadow killer also? Somebody has to know Something - but Who in L.A. is going to thwart the gangs & talk with the cops? Especially after the one witness is gunned down in gangland style?
You would think the closer to the end you get, the clearer the answers would be. No way! The farther you read, the more confused you get! Marvelous ending - Loved it!

The Kate Reid series -I've read all 8 books and found them well written and very enjoyable. Could not stop reading.
I can't think of any praise I haven't given this series. I love it. The characters are part of my life now. Haha. I loved the ending. On to the next one!
The Kate Reid series is a full-on great series and The Pretty Ones is at the top. This book is gritty, suspenseful and wickedly ingenious from plot to characterization. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a tense, tight murder mystery. Kate Reid is a tough cookie

This story flowed in a way that pulls the reader into it as if it's their daily life. These people certainly don't get enough sleep. Neither do I, especially with not being able to put down these books! This is a wonderful series!
